I’ve had this blog for about a year now… Those who’ve been bored enough to scroll down and read my ramblings about makeup and my other kaartehans would find, well, just that. I haven’t really shown much of who I am or expressed any opinions or thoughts I have about anything other than what I put on my face, or what smells good, and how I like sweeping 4 coats of mascara.
I’m not one to blog so much about my personal life and I like to keep it that way. I don’t think I would ever write about the nasty parts of my life (not that they’re THAT nasty) because I’m just not that comfortable telling a whole lot of people about those kinds of things. However, having and running a blog is something I like doing. It doesn’t really matter how many — or how little, in my case, read what I write or look at the pictures I post. It helps me keep track of my life in someway and I think I need that even though I’m sure that a couple of years from now, even just a couple of MONTHS, I’d read an old entry and say “Ewww. I said that?”
I have such bad bad bad memory to the point that I sometimes get paranoid about getting alzheimer’s when I grow old. (Too much Grey’s Anatomy?) I’d like to remember the things that make or have made me happy. So to remind myself that I’m not THAT mababaw (shallow) or superficial, I should probably inject little snippets of my personal life that have made me truly and deeply…happy.
Sooo.. to get to the point (and to be able to tell all my close friends all at the same time… I haven’t told anyone yet aside from Sab!) here goes: Finally went out on my first ever, real-est, finally legal date! C’mon, let me hear your cheers! Haha!
A asked my dad if he could treat me out to dinner to celebrate my TWENTY THIRD year on this planet and my dad said yes! BIG PROPS to both of them! I don’t think A ever had to do something like that before. If he did, it was probably easy for him. hahaha. And my dad did a pretty good job too.. I know it was difficult for him, so I appreciate him more. :)
It was the first time in x years A gave me flowers and I was super kilig. He says it’s because I’ve always told him that I didn’t like flowers because they give me allergies and that I’ve always preferred chocolates. After a year of studying Landscape Architecture though, I’ve developed such an inexplicable interest in flowers… so yeah, I like flowers now. I also loved it because it came from him AND it also came with a love letter which made me tear up. CHEESE!!! Moving ooooonnn….
We went to Cafe Ysabel, this house converted into a gourmet restaurant in San Juan, where he grew up. We had really good risotto, shrimp, and lamb spareribs! (We don’t have a proper photograph because the lights were so dim and I didn’t want the flash to disturb everyone else in the restaurant.)
We went to a Bubble Tea branch nearby after dinner for some milk tea (my other love!) and the place was just soooo cute! And I swear they have the YUMMIEST bubbles (that’s what they call their pearls/sago)!!
Mt. Fuji Matcha (mocha inside) cake! I usually pick out the weirdest stuff. I like matcha so I thought it would be good. It was so so.. didn’t get to finish it.
(The dress I’m wearing here is also A’s birthday gift! It’s the perfect LWD!)
I got the Jasmine milk tea with tiny bubbles… I liked it but I still should’ve gotten the Royal milk tea..
(Singit: Chanel Purete Mat Pressed Powder on my face, and Chanel Rouge Coco in Peregrina on my lips)
His version of a pout. hahaha.
Turning Japanese?? :))
I’ve been getting sooooo frustrated with a few things/people lately and it helps to just think about the stuff that make me happy. Ika nga ni Julie Andrews, “when the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling saaaad… I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don’t feeeeeel soooo baaaaaad!”
Did some catching up with some of my college friends yesterday..I missed you guys! Thank you for cheering me up and listening to my rantings and my version of “kawalang gana-han" Haha!
The Milo Dinosaurs, Monica and Miguel, got me something for my birthday! So sweet guys! Just like you two. hehehe! Thank you! Hugs!
I am so obsessed with anything peppermint choco flavored..
I absolutely love it, Mo! If you hadn’t given me this, I’d be stuck with brushing my lips with the bristles of my toothbrush. Haha! Now I don’t have to worry about chapped lips like I do every. single. day.
It tastes WONDERFUL! It keeps my lips soft and smooth… AND it doubles as a snack too.. perfect for 3 hour classes! Haha!
(P.S. Excuse the bad photographs. Too lazy to take the SLR out.)
Grabbed this clearer photograph of the Mint Julips lip scrub from the Milo Dinosaurs! See you again, soon guys!
Since REGIONAL VOTING has NOT started yet BUT CLEAN & CLEAR JUST SAID THAT VOTING WILL START THIS WEEK!!! SO PLEASE STAY TUNED AND SO SO SORRY FOR MAKING ALL OF YOU WAIT!
Meanwhile, let me give you a sneak peek at what you’ll be seeing in one of our many coming webisodes! Do Sab and I look like winners?? What do you think?? ;)
I didn’t know Clean & Clear took like 50+ photos from this day! I am not complaining though… I LOVE THEM! I totally forgot what we were talking about but it’s awesome how we’re just smiling and laughing in all the photos. :)
Shopping + Dressing up + Best Friend + in another country = Unbelievable Fun!
Our director, Chris, briefing us on what’s about to happen..
Our fabulous stylist, Faz Abdul Gaffa, introduces the first trend: COLOR BLOCKING!
and the last one was LACE & CROCHET!
Three, two, one… SHOP!!!!
We had TEN MINUTES ALL IN ALL to pick out our clothes and accessories, wear them, and be back exactly where we started!
Aaaaan we made it!!
It was the craziest and most surreal 10 minutes of our lives! Hahaha!
Last minute fix ups!
On to our presentations!
Sab explains why we chose to mix trends… STRIPES and FLORALS! Both of us are never afraid to experiment. We love the relaxed boho feel yet also express our different and colorful personalities with, well, color and contrasting patterns!
Team Singapore’s Paula and Nicole went for a sophisticated minimalist color blocking theme.. :)
Team Indonesia’s Nabilla and Assifya went for a fun color blocking theme to show their youthfulness..
And Team India’s Mehgna and Komal went for the smart stripes trend!
Always had to be ready for the camera! Makeup Artist, Andrea Claire, left us nothing to worry about!
I’d have to say this was the most fun challenge we did!
Details… I wish we got to keep the clothes, shoes, and accessories! :(
Sab: “Jills, we have to win!”
Hahaha! We may not look it, but we’re both VERY competitive! :)) We are in it to win it!
SUPPORT THE PHILIPPINES! VOTE for Sab and Jilli* and make them the faces of Clean & Clear ASIA!
*Voting will be sometime this week!
BY THE WAY, we’d love for you to check out our own website, made for us by the guys at Ilovecyber for free!! Thank you!! Click on this link: bffsabandjilli.com!
Today I turned twenty-three. I have to write that down and say it — repeatedly, so I can start to accept that I’m not going to be young forever. *gulp* Okay, I have to stop even before I decide to start babbling about getting older, needing to be more responsible, etc… Boring and SCARY stuff!
Back to my story! Right before 12 am struck, a package (or two packages!) arrived for me. Seeing how it was so adorably wrapped, it could only be from my top best friend, Isabella!
She said she couldn’t decide which of the many things I like to give me… so she got me EVERYTHING! Can you believe that??
She’s always like that though… extremely sweet and thoughtful (oh no! I’m ruining your image, Is! Haha!) She thinks about every single thing, making sure it has a significance for me.
Do you see those little post its? Those are notes for every single item, explaining why she got them! I remember she did something like this too for my 17th birthday.. She surprised me at home (on of her many!) and gave me 17 things that reminded her of me.. It was absolutely entertaining! Haha!
Many of you don’t know that I have a thing for watches and that I’m sort of a collector. It doesn’t matter at all what brand as long as I like how it looks! The latest one I was eyeing was the new Swatch Colour Codes collection, the ones with the long pastel-hued straps. I never got around to buying them or had time to look around for something similar (and less expensive!) and now I don’t have to! Thank you, Isa! (Don’t be confused! Isa is also Sab and Isabella. I just got used to calling her that because that was her nickname as a kid.) Ano ba Is! Of course I’ll wear it.. I already did the whole day yesterday! I love love love the jilli — oops, jelly! strap and the color!
One of our makeup artists in Singapore, Joanna Koh, (who also happens to have quite a resemblance to Lucy Liu!) has one of these and I thought it looked very handy! I was so amused by it I literally had to inspect it. Haha. It even had a label at the bottom saying “My livelihood depends on these brushes. If lost, please return to Joanna Koh…” or something like that! So cool. Haha.
Have you noticed how Sab’s hair is always so perfectly blown out?? All the time?? You’d think she’s one of those who literally goes to the salon everyday just to have her hair fixed (no offense to those who do!) but this strong and independent WOMAN does her own hair. EVERYDAY. 10 minutes tops. Never fails — even when she needs to be out the house by 5 am, there she is with her soft, ultra full-bodied crowning glory (enter wind effect while Sab slow mo runs out the door). One of her secrets? These brushes! I’ve borrowed hers before and I tell you, they aren’t named bc PROFESSIONAL for nothing…. but I will still need those tutorials, Is! And now I have no reason to look bruha anymore. Hahaha!
When I opened this, I was speechless. You make me feel like I’m such a professional, Isabella! I think I’m gonna cry now!! Every makeup lover would DIE to have a case like this. <3 They don’t come cheap ha!
Last but not the least, she gave be this beautiful photograph of us (taken by Kyla Olives) It also has another photo of us inside if I feel like switching it up. It’s just precious. <3
Cheesy but it’s true when I say that having Isabella as my best friend is already the best gift there is. :)
I wish for all the girls in the world to have a best friend as awesome as mine. :)
(…but now you all have to help me, HOW CAN I TOP THIS??? Hahaha!)
We were famished after our Forever21 shoot! How could we not be after all that running? Haha! We had lunch then had Awfully Chocolate for dessert. We got to do a little shopping too. :)
At 3:30pm we had to go back and meet with the other girls to shoot outside Ion, at Orchard Road.
If you’ve never been to Singapore, Ion is one of the most popular shopping centers on Orchard Road. It’s my absolute favorite, not just because of the shopping, but because of the architecture. I don’t even have to describe it. It speaks for itself. Just look at that!!! It’s CRAZY beautiful.
Just a few days ‘til voting begins! However, we’re not sure if it’s pushing through on the 10th yet as Clean & Clear wants to make sure that the voting app on facebook will work without any glitches. So sorry guys! We’ll inform you when we have a finalized date!
For now, you can follow our exciting 5-day Beauty Camp experience in Singapore! :P
DAY THREE was FASHION CHALLENGE at Forever21 Day!
As usual, Sab and I woke up at around 6:45 to get ready for hair and make up with Andrea Claire at 7:15 am.
BEST look ever, no? Hahaha! My pictures always look silly…Sab’s, however, is…
… I don’t want to sound biased, but she’s just born to be in front of the camera.
We decided to wear matching dresses and bags because it says something about or best friend story — when we were 5, we’d always run into each other in different places outside school and we’d always be wearing exactly the same things! Cute, no? :P PLUS, we though it would be strategic to wear something that’s easy to put on and take off come challenge time. Haha!
Stairway to heaven, some say.
Me and Che!
Sab and Che!
With our very hard working director and producer, Chris and Bhavna, before shooting our first scene of the day.
Me behind the cameras and these little tvs (I have no idea what they’re called haha)
Chris, Tao, and Phil, setting up the place. Check out the lights. They were HOT as hell! Andrea had to keep giving me Oil Control Film!
I also had a pack in my bag, as I always do. I swear, it’s a life saver.
All of us TBFs of Asia!
Faz, our resident stylist, starts explaining the challenge!
First, she showed us four different trends from which we had to get our inspiration: COLOR BLOCKING, STRIPES, FLORALS, and LACE&CROCHET. They blocked off a whole section for us in Forever21 at Ion (the biggest one in Singapore!) from which to choose the outfits we were going to put together.
We only had TEN MINUTES to grab clothes & accessories, get dressed, and go back to the place where we started! It was INTENSE. Sab and I had no idea what we wanted to do (just that we were taking Lace & Crochet out off our options), we were just running around grabbing as much as clothes as we could with all these camera men running after us!
We brought so much clothes with us to the dressing room that when we piled them all on the floor they covered our feet. I swear you would’ve laughed if you’ve seen us. I do every time I remember! We had a sea of clothes in the cubicle I couldn’t find my shoes anymore and ended up running barefoot! Then Sab saw just ONE pair of pumps on one shelf, took them, and gave them to me. Guess what? It was exactly my size!
And this is how we ended up looking. What do you think? We couldn’t decide which trend we liked more — stripes or florals, so we said, “why not both?” When we were asked why we chose what we chose, we said we were both fans of the laid back bohemian look and that we’re never afraid to mix and match patterns. We think it also speaks about our friendship too… Sab and I are like stripes and florals — we’re very different but we complement and go perfectly well with each other. ;) (This is getting long. Day Three was such a long day! Will post a Part 2!)
I can’t wait for you to see this segment on our reality show webisodes!! Guess who won the fashion challenge + 400SGD? :)
Just 8 more days left ‘til regional voting begins! I’m counting on your support! :D
This is Day Two in pictures..
We spent practically the whole day filming. It was very reality show-like minus the cattiness! All the other Top Best Friends were lovely!
As usual, we had to get up at 630am to get ready and head off to hair and makeup with out bubbly makeup artist, Andrea Claire.
Done with hair and makeup and ready for a whole day of filming!
Sab and I pre-planned our outfits for each day! On this day we wanted to do color blocking and print over print with vibrant pops of color. It was a good thing we did ‘cause we got a special visit from our stylist, Faz, and the camera crew in our room to film all the clothes we were planning to wear for the coming days…
Matching dresses just like when we were 5! Easy to dress and undress for the next day’s fashion challenge!
Our second shoot for the day (we weren’t able to take pictures of us filming in our bus!)…
Our director, Chris Martin, giving directions.. (duh?)
Johnson & Johnson big boss, Sally Warren, briefing us about the whole competition and the prizes in store for the winners! Out of 650,000 entries Asia-wide, only four pairs were chosen to represent their respective countries! Still cannot believe it! (Oh you know what, Sab and I had no idea that Sally is one of the big bosses of the whole region! She was so down-to-earth!)
We filmed our best friend story next… This is part of the “diary series” like those solo interviews in all those reality shows! It was soooo much fun!
In the Marilyn Monroe elevator with our camera man, Tao, our producer Bhavna, our stylist Faz, and our sounds man (shoot I forgot his name boo) going up to our room to shoot our clothes..
After all the filming, Sab and I changed into more comfortable clothes for dinner and some quick shopping at Vivo City. While waiting for the bus, we got bored and took photos with all the other girls. :))
The girls at the top most are Nabilla and Sophie from Indonesia. The girls on the left are Meghna and Komal from India, and on the right are Paula and Nicole from Singapore.
We got to do a little shopping at Vivo City and our friend Che surprised me and Sab with absolutely delicious ice cream from Awfully Chocolate!
Tourist shots! :)) Went back to Hotel Re!, our home for the next three days, at 930pm to get some very much needed beauty rest!
