I had a quick but fun shoot for a magazine feature with my good college friend, Roxxi, today! (I missed you Roxx!!!)
This is my favorite photo… I think it’s very “Blair and Serena”-ish!
Getting dressed up was fun after months of just being in shorts and t-shirts a.k.a Arki attire. Haha!
Roxxi looking so cuuuuuuute and chic in a blue and white Zara dress, Gucci bag, and strappy gold Cole Vintage Flats!
Me, with what my sister Jessi calls, “Rumi Neely hair” — totally unintentional! :P
White top by my fabulous neighbor and up and coming designer, Celline Salapantan, black-dotted blue skirt from Forever 21, Peter Pan Collar Neckpiece by Pam Hiran, shoes by Jessica Simpson and Chanel bag.
Summer Brights, Rainbow Shadows, and the Black Fleet (Summer Make Up Look #2)
This is the second part of my Summer Make Up series, modeled by Lena McKenzie — "globe-trotting opera singer and theater actress" who also happens to appear in today’s Young Star (Fresh Produce 2011 by Raymond Ang) section of The Philippine Star!
Still beautiful even without make up on!
1. Foundation - Model’s own
2. Maybelline Perfect Concealer (Light) applied with a Stila #9 brush under her eyes and around her nose
3. Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin
4. Eyeshadow - I used 5 different colors on Lena’s Eyes. Yep, she had space for 5 since she had deep set eyes — always the easiest and most fun to put shadow on!
- Urban Decay Snatch on her browbone to give them a soft pink highlight
- Urban Decay Painkiller all over her lid
- Urban Decay Mildew on her crease
- The Bright Gold shade in my 4U2 Contemporary Palette in the inner corners of her eyes
- Urban Decay Flash on her upper and lower lash lines
5. Clinique Gel Liner (Black)
6. L’oreal Voluminous Mascara
7. MAC Peaches and MAC Harmony on her cheeks and its contours
8. Make Up Forever Aqua Lip in Coral
(The lighting wasn’t so good inside the room :( )
The Color Palette
Her make up definitely matched her character — she had the most colorful personality and was such a natural in front of the camera! Hope you liked it, Lena!
I can be a little sentimental. Who counts their posts, right? But just for me, I wanted this 100th post to be special. Luckily, a worthy subject has come my way. :)
I’ve been rambling on and on about make up tips and a few tricks these past few months, you might have learned a thing or two. Or at least, I hope you did.
So on this 100th post, I would have to divulge one of my TOP BEAUTY MUST-HAVES. After years of reading Allure Magazine and wishing we had our own in the Philippines (I just can’t afford to buy every issue of Allure!), we finally have our own BEAUTY BIBLE —- BLUSH MAGAZINE! It definitely is "The Ultimate Beauty Source" ‘cause you won’t find any other local magazine solely dedicated to beauty.
I just had to buy their first issue the second I saw it on the shelves. Solenn Heussaf + Beauty/Make Up Magazine = I can die right now. She looks stunning on the cover, a total chameleon… which I think is always the best face to put make up on. She actually kind of reminds me of Megan Fox here with those come hither, sultry eyes.
Solenn Heussaf for Blush (May/June 2010)
Heart Evangelista for Blush (July/August 2010)
KC Concepcion for Blush (September/October 2010)
Andi Eigenmann for Blush (November/December 2010)
Kim Chiu for Blush (January/February 2011)
Jilli Gomez for Blush!!! Yes, me!!! (Oh no, but not the cover!) A happy hundredth post to me! :D
Thank you to the Blush Team for the magazines!
Watch out for their Summer Issue AND their own BEAUTY BLOG coming out this March! ;)
Romantic Rendezvous + The Black Fleet Limo Bus + Date Make Up
So I put on my make up, borrowed a dress, wore my Chinese Laundry heels, and WENT ON A DATE IN A LIMO! So Aria Montgomery and Ezra Fitz right??? Oh how I wish. I am such a Pretty Little Liar (fan)!
This was actually for The Black Fleet shoot… Yes, the limo service taking Justin Bieber around town when he comes over for his concert! Hopefully, my dear Adam Levine too!!!
This is the longest my hair has been! :D
This is where Ate Weng (the Joses’ helper) goes crazy as if watching a telenovela. Haha! She’s such a comedian she could actually be a comic relief in those ultra dramatic teleseryes.
A close up of my Pam Hiran Mahjong bracelet.
I did my own make up for this shoot and unlike the make up for the other layout, I kept mine really simple, a very “going-on-a-first-date” like make up. You don’t want your date getting distracted by your colorful lids when he’s about to look deep in your eyes and profess his undying love for you, do you? Also, more often than not, boys don’t like the super made up look ‘coz they like seeing your “natural beauty.” ;)
First Date/Anniversary Date/”NATURAL” Beauty Make Up Tips:
1. Conceal your blemishes with a concealer. Yes, the zit you got from your hormonal fluctuations due to nervousness and excitement can hide on your special day!
2. Slab on that foundation — you can go for a really sheer one like BB Cream — to even out your skin.
3. Pluck ‘em stray brows and brush them!
4. Stick to neutral eye shadow colors like gold, champagne, and bronze.
5. Highlight prominent areas of your face (brow bone, cheek bone, but never your chin) with a highlighter — no, not the with neon Stabilo ones, but with some shimmer.
6. Smile and brush the apple of your cheeks with a pink or peach tint for that faux flushed look. ;)
6. Pucker up and slide on a light pink lipstick and gloss for those kissable lips…or at least they LOOK kissable! Haha!
Products I used for this look:
1. Face Shop Professional liquid foundation
2. Maybelline Perfect Concealer
3. On whole lid: Urban Decay Maui Wowie
4. On brow bone: MAC Ricepaper
5. On crease/socket line: Urban Decay Smog
6. On cheeks: MAC Peaches and Ulta Karma
7. For contours: MAC Harmony
8. Highlight: Laura Mercier Starlight Powder
9. Eyeliner: Clinique gel liner
10. Mascara: Max Factor False Lash Effect
11. Lips: MAC Pinkarat lustreglass
My color palette:
The actual photos don’t show my make up in so much detail… but I think this does, a little bit. Didn’t get to take much close up pictures ‘cause we were so busy!
I guess that’s it! Have a nice DATE? :P

Summer Brights, Rainbow Shadows, and the Black Fleet (Summer Make Up Look #1)
One of my best friends, Isabella Jose, started a limo service business called The Black Fleet with her siblings. She asked me to model and do make up for a shoot last Sunday, and I happily obliged. :)
She wanted to show who their target market was through their promotional materials so there were three different themes — a wedding, a romantic anniversary date/proposal, and a summer barkada outing.
I did simple, classic make up on myself for the romantic anniversary theme and focused my creative energy more on my “summer models.”
My first model was Cielo Umali, Isa’s/Sab’s kabarkada, and my MEco coursemate.
I asked all the models to bring their own foundation so I’m sure that it pretty much matches their skin tone. Cielo brought with her the Maybelline BB Cream I was just raving about. :> There isn’t really any problem with it, but for photo shoots, a foundation with more coverage is better to use. So I took out my Face Shop Professional Liquid Foundation, and it turns out that it was what Cielo was using before the BB Cream. I applied this all over her face after putting Maybelline Perfect Concealer in a light shade underneath her eyes, around her nose, and her upper lips, and a darker shade of concealer on her blemishes. I then groomed her brows by filling them in with MAC Harmony and holding it in place with MAC Girl Boy Brow Set.
On her eyes, I used my ever trusty Urban Decay Show Pony Palette, applying Smog (I fall in love with this every time I use it) all over her lids, Snatch to highlight her brow bone, Painkiller (my all-time favorite blue) in the inner and outer corners of her eyes, ALMOST meeting at the middle although not quite. I used Flash and 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Ransom to line both her upper and lower lashes and Maui Wowie from my UD <3 NYC Book of Shadows for that gold sparkle in the inner corners of her lower lash line. On her upper lash line is a thin strip of Clinique Gel Liner (black) and on her curled lashes, L’Oreal Voluminous.
Here is the palette I used on Cielo’s eyes…
On her cheeks, I used MAC Peaches, a peachy (duh?) sheertone which I think goes very well with the purple. I also used MAC Harmony, a rose-beige brown matte to contour her face, emphasizing her jaws and cheekbones.
Before I applied Make Up Forever’s Aqua Lip in 18C Coral all over her lips, I was about to moisturize her lips with my Lip Ice Fruity lip balm in Strawberry when Cielo said she had the exact same balm too! This is my favorite lip balm because it smells so nice (like Strawberry Push Pop which is my favorite) and gives your lips that cool feeling since it contains menthol.
After finding out that we both use three exact essential make up products, I can say that Cielo and I share the same “musts” list when buying make up… it must be inexpensive but still be of great quality. (Cielo, I remember you saying you didn’t know where to buy Lip Ice… They’re in all SM Department Stores and in all Watson’s!) I think I’ll be getting it in all flavors soon.. They just cost like PhP100-115 each!
I finally applied Laura Mercier Starlight dust, a highlighting powder, on the upper portion of her cheekbones so that she sparkles every time the sun hits her face, completing her summer look. :>
(The lighting wasn’t so good here..)
Under the sun with Isabella, the PROPRIETOR (say it with a British accent :P) of The Black Fleet.
To be honest, I was quite nervous about doing Cielo’s make up at first. Although she’s really fair which means most colors would suit her, she had monolid Chinese-like eyes (though she’s not Chinese) which is always quite tricky to “paint” on. But I think I did a pretty good job on her, don’t you think? :> The colors were perfect on her! I love the look on her… I hope she liked it too!
